The Great Plains

Hey Everyone,
Today was our first day of travel sponsored by the Air Force so we were on track for Alaska. So far since we left Baton Rouge we have traveled thirteen hundred miles. We started the day in Bixby, OK after spending the night at the home of our good friends Lance and Michelle McCarver. Our night in Bixby was the end of familiar faces until we reach Alaska.
We had a great trip. The terrain was mostly crops, crops, and more crops over the rolling plains of Oklahoma, Kansas and the first part of Colorado. We took a break in Wichita, KS at the Brint Diner. We found out about it on the Food Network's, Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. It was a cute little place with stools at the bar and blue plate specials. A whole meal for $4.99. They serve hamburgers, chicken fried steak, meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy and a whole assortment of home cooked meals.
Tonight we find ourselves in Burlington, CO just inside the Colorado state line. It is a very small town but they offer a few hotels with indoor pools, free wi-fi, and continental breakfast. We stopped driving about 8:30 and enjoyed a few minutes in the pool and dinner at a fabulous restaurant, Route Steakhouse. Their queso is amazing and the brisket Chile was outstanding. If you are ever passing though we would recommend it.
well that's it for the first day of travel. Tomorrow we will be traveling through Colorado and Wyoming.
