Mississippi

Since we arrived here in Louisiana people have been telling us about the beaches in Gulfport, Mississippi and how close they were to us, so Jordan and I decided to take a little overnight trip to the beach on Thursday. It was one last getaway before he started work this Monday. The beach is only an hour and half from our house so it was no piece before we were there. To my surprise the beaches in Mississippi are actually nice. The sand is white and the water is better than Galveston Bay, but it is still not snorkeling water. Since we went during the week the beaches were pretty empty. i am super excited to have such a close place to getaway too. Here are some pictures of Jordan and i at the beach. On Friday we traveled from Mississippi to New Orleans where we shopped in the French Quarter Market (one of my favorite places to shop). We met a family friend for dinner at a little bar off of Espenlade St. and Lopez St. just north of the French Quarters but closer to the race track. The bar is called Liuzza's and they have the most amazing BBQ Shrimp Poboy. You would never have guessed that this little pub would have such an amazing menu item, but I highly recommend partaking of this goodness if you are in the area. Yum, Yum!!!

After dinner our friend took us around to show us some of the destruction that still remains from Hurricane Katrina. It is amazing the destruction that the floods did on the town and the amount of destruction that still is evident throughout the town. It was one thing to see the pictures on television three years ago, but it is so much more when you see it in person. One of the sites that we visited was the initial area where the break in the levee happened and the water reached levels in houses of 12' or more and most of them are still vacant and show evidence of the water levels on the sides of the houses. Needless to say this experience was surreal.

Baton Rouge Sightseeing

The weekend after we moved into our new home here both Jordan and my family came to visit us to see our new home. Since we were already unpacked and settled we took our guest around to see some of the sights around our new town. In the downtown area just blocks from our new home is the home of the capital of Louisiana which is the tallest capital building in the nation. pretty cool huh!

There is also a hill near the capital building that has an exact match of the Liberty Bell. The great thing is you can touch the bell and it actually has a ringer that works inside....you ask how I know that???? well my father-in-law decided to try to ring it and you should have seen his face when the bell rang so loud that they could have probably heard it 2 miles down the Mississippi river, but the funniest part was him running away from the bell watching over his shoulder to see if someone was coming.

Texas to London to Prague

It's been several weeks since my last post, but rest assured that all of those weeks have been filled with work, graduating, traveling, and getting settled in our new home. As many of you know Jordan and I took a vacation after graduation to London and Prague.

Here are a few pictures of our vacation ( I have 803 if you are interested in more, but I thought I would spare you the slideshow).....

This is a view of Prague, CZ from the top of Prague castle. The large bride crossing the river is the famous Charles Bridge. Some of you may remember it from the Bourne Identity Movies.

We were ther for about 14 days all together and had a great time and saw tons of really cool things. Shortly after our return to the states (2 days later) we loaded up our moving truck and headed southeast to Louisiana to get settled before Jordan starts his residency program.

We arrived to our new place on Tuesday afternoon (June 3rd) by Thursday morning we had all except for 7 boxes unpacked. Jordan's dad traveled with us from Texas to Louisiana and stayed till the following Monday to help us get settled in.
