Twilight Movie

Friends,
If you have not read the series and you instead see the movie first please do not turn away from reading the book because of the movie. Jordan surprised me Friday evening (opening day) with tickets to see the movie. Naturally I was very thrilled to see what I had been reading put into action on the big screen. Like most movies that are made from books i found myself disappointed just a bit. I guess it is just impossible to capture the depth of the books in a short two hours of action on the screen. The movie is good, but the books are so much better.

In my spare time

Since I seem to have a lot of spare time lately I have enjoyed reading a lot. I am a frequent visitor of the library and often walk out with 5 or more books at a time. I have enjoyed discovering some new authors. Outside of textbooks for grad school and undergrad my usual choice of reading is Christian fiction, but I am branching out a little lately to include some new popular reads as well as suggestions for other readers. My latest discovery is the Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyers. When we first moved here we had an interesting experience with this book series so I was a little uneasy in what the series is all about, but after a little research I discovered that the series was basically a love story with a twist in the selection of characters. I thought I would just read the first book and see what this craze was all about and since the movies is opening this coming Friday it made me even more curious. Well about one chapter into the book I was hooked. I bought the book one evening last week when Jordan was on call and I finished the book by mid afternoon the next day. i just couldn't seem to put it down. Now I am a sucker for good love story and this was perfect. If you like a love story and a little adventure and a bit of mystery this is a good fast read. I have completed the series totalling 2446 pages in a weeks time. I realize I have a little more free time than most, but it was a definite page turner.

Over the holiday break I am working on a new book that I got from Barnes and Noble that contains 7 of Jane Austen's novels. For all those Jane Austen loving friends I have this is a great buy and great to decorate a bookshelf after your done. It was $19.96 ....you can't buy all the novels it includes for that price separately. Happy Reading....

Our First LSU Football game

Jordan received some LSU football tickets from the residency program on Friday. When he brought them home he realized that that date on the tickets was from September. WHAT??? It turned out the game was a make up game since hurricane Gustav made its big debut in Louisiana that week and damaged the LSU campus. Yeah! we have been wanting to attend a football game this year since we arrived, but the luxury of finding tickets is near impossible since everyone in the entire state attends the games. There are long waiting list for season tickets and parking passes. Some people we have met have inherited their season tickets from their great grandparents. CRAZY!!!

I was really thrilled to get the chance to attend a college football game. Of course we would have much preferred to attend a Texas Tech game, but under the circumstances this would have to do. We bundled up and set out for the adventure of finding a parking place within walking distance of the stadium...which is huge by the way. it holds 91, 600 fans, and from what I hear it packs out most often. This week the opponent was Troy University so it wasn't as big of a game, but it was homecoming, but it was super chilly. The seats filled up by the middle of the 1st quarter, but they thinned out to almost sparse by the end of the 3rd quarter. The Tigers were not fulfilling their championship reputation during the 1st half of the game. At halftime the score was LSU 3 and Troy 31. YIKES!!! I have to say Jordan and I stuck it out for the first half, but when everyone abandoned us in our section it became very chilly and we gave up after not seeing much change in the first half of the 3rd quarter. The Tigers were playing so poorly that the LSU fans themselves were booing their own team and yelling profanities. I was surprised by the attitude of the fans. In all my Texas Tech football games I have never heard of a team booing their own .

We are hoping for a better game this coming Saturday when we watch the game against Mississippi. There is some good rivalry between the two so the fans should liven it up a bit. Our good friends have generously given us their tickets for the game because they will be heading out for Thanksgiving vacation early so we are looking forward to another day of football. Not to mention Texas Tech will be playing OU this weekend to defend their undefeated title.

One last thing....I would like to share with you our anniversary date. My grandmother sent Jordan and I some moolah to celebrate our belated anniversary so we went on a date out to eat and played a little miniature golf at celebration station. here are a few clips from our night out on the town.

This was my "I'm winning dance" but it was a little premature since my next shot took me 5 strokes to get it in making me loose by 2 strokes for the game.
Like most things around town there is always something decorated with LSU.

The COMLEX is only 3 days away

On Friday, November 21st Jordan will sit for his last COMLEX test (the D.O. equivalent to the USMLE for M.D. docs). He has been diligently studying in preperation. It is a challenge sometimes to focus on studying for a test when there are so many other things to do, but he has fought the temptation and found a way to fit studying in. Here are a few pictures of my sweetie working hard and learning. Sometimes he even cons me into quizing him or teaching me about diseases and disgusting illnesses.

Election Day...Go VOTE!!!

We did it... Jordan and I cast our votes this morning.
It was a little different voting here than in Texas. First of all the ballot seemed pretty short and simple compared to Texas. We only had two senate seats, one house of representative, and one councilmen to vote for today. Also, the process of checking in to vote was a little more rowdy than compared to the polls in Texas were there is pretty much silence from the time you enter the voting area to the time you leave the booth and exit the building. The great thing about voting here was the location of the voting. Jordan and I live only 2 blocks from the location so we were able to take a morning stroll to the election booth this morning. Hopefully we chose the right candidates and voted for or against the right amendments that it will help benefit the people of Louisiana and their local government as well as this great nation.

I am not going to tell you how or who to vote for, but I encourage you no matter the inconvenience that you might think it would be to drive there or take off work or wait in the lines. As an American it is our privilege to have an active part in the selection of our leaders and we must take that seriously and take the time to cast our vote.

Moving to Mississippi

This morning we had a big surprise at the end of the worship service. Our pastor announced that he is leaving effective December 31st and has accepted a position as an associate professor at Mississippi College. This came as a surprise to Jordan and I since we had dinner with Pastor Page and his wife last Thursday, and there was not indication of them leaving. Pastor has been serving at FBC since 1994 and seen them through some growing times as well as played an important role in leading the church to open a second campus which we attend.
I know this opportunity will be a great experience for Pastor and his family and I am sure that he and will be a blessing to many students that sit in his classes. This will also be an opportunity for God to be glorified through the search for a new pastor to shepherd the family of believers at FBC and the church bodies faith throughout the process.

If you have the time and think of us please lift up our church family at FBC as they prepare to search for a new pastor and Pastor Burn and his family as they prepare for this new journey and finish out their last two months ministering to the people of FBC.

Amazing!!!!If you missed the game between UT and Texas Tech last night you missed out on one of the greatest games we've ever seen. The only thing that would have made it better would have been to be in Lubbock and at the stadium for the game. Last night we found a few people around town that were not attending the LSU vs. Tulane game and had them over to watch the TECH game. It's pretty rare to find many people that are not attending the LSU home games.

If you missed the game last night you should definitely find someone that recorded it or catch the recaps on ESPN because it was a great 2nd half and a spectacular 4th quarter. . .
