Transitions

Hey out there in cyberspace.  It's been several months since our last blog.  In the meantime, I have done rotations in radiology, ICU, and dermatology.  Dawn was just about to go to a conference in Fort Worth at our old church and she was excited to see who she would run into.  Well, she ran into several people and she was thrilled to see old friends. 

I just started by night shift rotation which means I stay overnight at the hospital from 6 pm until 7.30 am monday through thursday for 6 weeks.  In addition to that, I have clinic on monday afternoons and friday mornings to see my clinic patients.  But the good part is I have long weekends off!

My parents came to visit us on their spring break for a long weekend.  They almost didn't come because they said we were too busy, but when are we not busy!  I'm so glad they came.  They were good sports and went to the things on our schedule like the AWANA's awards night and the Tiger Olympics. 

For Easter weekend Dawn's parents came to visit.  Dawn and I went to a wedding on Friday night while her parents went to dinner.  At the wedding reception, I noticed there was a long line of people waiting for drinks, but there was only one person serving.  So I started serving drinks too.  Then Dawn came to get me, but I didn't hear her so she kicked off her high heels and started passing out drinks.  The line finally dwindled and we left our post of drink servers.  Too bad there was no more food left!  Oh well.

The Saturday before Easter is always the Easter Egg hunt at the church for the kids.  We usually have crafts in the gym and then do the hunt on the lawn.  But this year it rained so we had the hunt in the santuary.  It was amazing to see how fast 30 kids can find 2000 eggs!

Dawn and I have made a very tough decision.  In effort to save money and be closer to the church, we are going to move from our favorite residence yet to an apartment across town.  We will be down-sizing quite a bit - from a two bed, two bath, with a large dining room, big kitchen, entry way, study, and HUGE deck to a one bed, one bath, small kitchen, small deck with no dining room, entry way, or study.  The move will take place Memorial Day weekend and until that time we will be focusing on what to do with all our stuff!  The plan is to sell most of our furniture: bedroom suite, living furniture, guest bedroom furniture, patio sets (yes, I said "sets" - we have three; did I mention we have a HUGE deck?).  But we are excited about our new apartment.  It is very new, gated, and has a resort-like swimming pool area.  I think what sold the apartment to Dawn was the staging of the model apartment.  She said "Can I have this apartment just like it is?"  But since we can't, we'll get to start over with new furniture and decorations.

Almost Settled In

As some of you may know we moved at the beginning of June. No, we are still in the capital of Louisiana, but we just relocated in the city to be more central to my work and to our friends and not to mention the bonus of saving a little on rent. We have unpacked all but two boxes so we are almost settled in. We love the new place since it has a pool and a work out center we take advantage of those as much as possible. We are able to have friends over and cook out more often since we are a little closer to friends it's easier to plan something on the fly.
The beginning of July marked the start of Jordan's third year in residency. My how time flies when you are working hard. It seems like just yesterday that we were moving to Baton Rouge and here we sit with only 11 more months till we are probably relocated again. It's a good thing that we left half of our things in storage when we moved last month.
I have been away a lot this summer with church camps and spending hours at the church working on Vacation Bible School. I have one more church camp at the end of this month and then my travels will be over for a while. Jordan is ready for me to be home for good. In addition to things at work keeping me busy Jordan and I have been staying busy in the evenings and on the weekends redecorating our place. We sold most of our furniture and decorations before the move to lighten the load and to change up our decor so we have been refinishing furniture and hitting up the antique stores for old furniture that needs a face lift. I have been reading decorating magazines and researching online to get ideas and ways to get the most for your money at flea markets and antique shops.
Our coolest find was our headboard....well it's actually old shutters from that we mounted to be our headboard. we have also been working on an old coffee table we found in the depths of an antique shop and giving it a face lift.
I love being crafty.
